Methow Valley Fish Report<\/b><\/p>\n

I got a chance to fish the Methow River with my buddy Jeff Lyman on Monday.\u00a0 We faced elevated river flows and a water temp drop that made your feet ache.\u00a0 The recent heat wave has signaled the classic stair-step drop in river cfs with water temps dropping to 51deg in the morning.\u00a0 The fishing was slow until midday, then the cutthroat started hitting the streamers.\u00a0 The fish were few and far between but size made up for the lack of willing fish.\u00a0 We released 2 nice size cutthroat trout, 16″ and 21″ (see pic below), and played games with a handful of smaller fish.\u00a0 By the end of the day the river was dropping and the water temp came up to 58.\u00a0 The big cutthroat are setting up and as the water drops the classic “football” cutties will be here crashing down on hoppers.<\/p>\n

Temps are turning hot and the lake bite will be slowing down, but if you get down deep, 15′ or so, you can find some in the thermocline.\u00a0 Damsel fly patters are still the hot ticket on all the low land lakes.\u00a0 Use a damsel nymph pattern on a sink tip and slowly retrieve the bug back with little action.\u00a0 Once you see fish rising to eat the adult damsels (usually in the afternoon), switch to a floating line and present the adult pattern a few feet from the rise.\u00a0 You should see the fish turn and hammer your fly.\u00a0 Wading across the rivers is still not advised, the water is moving much too fast.\u00a0 The forecast of sun and warm weather should bring the water levels down and signal the start of dry fly fishing.<\/p>\n

River Gear:\u00a0 4-5 wt dry fly hopper\/dropper set up, a deep stone fly nymphing rig with a strike indicator and a 6-7 wt sinking line with a big bugger\/nymph set up.\u00a0 Lake Gear: 3-4 wt dry fly rig (damsel or callibaetis) and a 5-6 wt sink tip with a damsel nymph.<\/p>\n

Big Twin Lake<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 OPEN Apr. 27 – Oct. 31.\u00a0 Good cutthroat and rainbow fishing.\u00a0 Catch-and-release recommended.\u00a0 Daily trout limit 1, no min size.\u00a0 Other game fish statewide size\/daily limit.\u00a0 Internal combustion motors prohibited.\u00a0 Good boat launch.\u00a0 Surface – 77 acres.<\/p>\n

Black Pine Lake<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 OPEN.\u00a0 Good cutthroat fishing.<\/p>\n

Buck Lake<\/b> – OPEN.<\/p>\n

Campbell Lake<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 OPEN All game fish.\u00a0 Apr. 1st – Aug. 31 Catch-and-release.\u00a0 Selective gear rules.\u00a0 Internal combustion motors prohibited.\u00a0 Sept. 1 – Mar. 31 statewide size\/daily limit.\u00a0 Steep boat launch, ok for small craft.\u00a0 Surface – 11 acres.<\/p>\n

Cougar Lake<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 OPEN All game fish.\u00a0 Apr. 1st – Aug. 31 Catch-and-release.\u00a0 Selective gear rules.\u00a0 Internal combustion motors prohibited.\u00a0 Sept. 1 – Mar. 31 statewide size\/daily limit.\u00a0 Tight boat launch, not suited for larger craft.\u00a0 Surface – 9 acres.<\/p>\n

Davis Lake\u00a0<\/b>\u2013 OPEN All game fish.\u00a0 Apr. 1st – Aug. 31 Catch-and-release.\u00a0 Selective gear rules.\u00a0 Internal combustion motors prohibited.\u00a0 Sept. 1 – Mar. 31 statewide size\/daily limit.\u00a0 Good boat launch.\u00a0 Surface – 39 acres.<\/p>\n

Little Twin<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 OPEN Apr. 27 – Oct. 31.\u00a0 Catch-and-release recommended.\u00a0 Daily trout limit 1, no min size.\u00a0 Other game fish statewide size\/daily limit.\u00a0 Internal combustion motors prohibited.\u00a0 Good boat launch.\u00a0 Surface – 24 acres.<\/p>\n

Patterson Lake<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 OPEN.\u00a0 Statewide size\/daily limit on trout.\u00a0 Mixed bag of bass, trout and perch.\u00a0 Surface – 143 acres.<\/p>\n

Pearrygin Lake<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 OPEN Apr. 27 – Sept. 30.\u00a0 Heavily stocked with nice sized fish.\u00a0 All game fish statewide size\/daily limit.\u00a0 Good boat launch.\u00a0 Surface – 192 acres.<\/p>\n
