Methow Morning<\/p><\/div>\n

Hey yawl, its fall. In many regards it feels like winter and we have seen a few snowflakes here in the Methow already. Like I say, if the weather sucks it must be time to go steel heading. This season like many others has been busy here on the Met, I\u2019m afraid it\u2019s no secret anymore but that\u2019s ok there\u2019s room and fish for all.<\/p>\n

\nI spend much of my time fishing the middle and upper stretches of the river as I live in the town of Twisp. With recent rains and decent water levels we have had fish spread through the system since August, which can make for many places to try.<\/p>\n

\nEarly in the season it\u2019s all about the dries, then the swing and later the nymphs and small bugs. Fish start in the heads of the run then slowly drop to the tail-outs (at this point most are still in top two thirds of the run). Good water is usually defined by drop, structure and depth with most fish between 3-8ft of water in jogging to slow walking speed water.<\/p>\n

The Methow is a pretty friendly river as far as public access goes with many great runs right next to the road and access laws that give plenty of room to roam (within15ft of high water mark). As well there are multiple \u201cboat launches\u201d for drift-boats and rafts.<\/p>\n

\nFishing has been steady and fun, make sure to approach fish with stealth as this is small water. Leave heavy Skagit style heads at home keep it light and quite, full-float or Scandi lines are best suited for the Methow and spooky steelhead.<\/p>\n
