Spring has done sprung and summer is beginning to hum and with the longer days come more and more chances to play. Lately I\u2019ve been spending my time almost fifty fifty between the still and moving water but as the flows come down I spend more time on the river. It\u2019s hard to bet the sounds and the feel of the waves be it on the boat or on your legs while wadding.<\/p>\n

\nWith so many of the lakes over wintering so well last year chances are no matter where you go you\u2019ll find hold-overs of large proportion ready to put up a fight and right now is one of my favorite times on the lakes, the Damsel hatch. With most of the activity on any given day being between 10am-2pm for Damsels you want to try to hit the window right.\u00a0 As well Buggers just be for dark have produced great results.<\/p>\n

\nAs for lakes a bit higher up like Roger and Tiffany well they are just starting to warm up a little and the fish are frisky with some especially nice cutties at Roger this year and the usual Brookies and Cutts at Lower Tiffany Lake. For those who would like a bit more challenge try the 2mile bushwhack from Lower Tiffany to Upper Tiffany sometimes the fish can be a bit bigger and the view is always worth it.<\/p>\n

As for the rivers well they are finally taking shape quite nicely, recent rains have put the squeeze on the last big snowfields in the high-country and now we can look forward to mellower flows and with it great fishing. On the river so far the nymph rigs (stones, johns, pt\u2019s) are still the hot ticket but in the right water the dries have been yielding fierce strikes already.<\/p>\n

As the Methow gets below 2,500CFS fishing will get easier until then though be very careful one wrong move can put you in a bad spot when water is high. It\u2019s always a good idea to fish with a friend or wear a life jacket if you\u2019re wearing waders as they can fill with water and pull you under.<\/p>\n
